Converged Technologies for Security, Safety, and Resilience
Converged Technologies is pleased to announce the creation of the Converged Technologies Team Award. This program is in accordance with Virginia Tech Policy 4335, that was made available in June 2010. The policy states that:
Awards programs may be established for departments to accomplish a number of objectives such as: Recognition of employees or organizational units whose achievements contribute to the mission, goals, and objectives of the university, college, administrative area, or department.
This award program is being created to reward a team of Converged Technologies for Safety, Security and Resilience personnel for jointly contributing to a specific innovative and creative approach to any of the following:
- business model;
- organizational model;
- technology utilization; and
- utilization and management of student wage employees.
What is meant by “award”? 3 types –non-monetary award like a plaque or certificate; monetary awards, subject to the policy; and recognition leave (vacation time, for example);
Who qualifies to receive an award? – teams of 3 or more Converged Technologies employees that are eligible according to the policy (classified staff or faculty)
What are the criteria on which award selection will be based? – Preference will be given for the degree to which the effort incorporates the following:
- Cross-functional team efforts
- Structured planning, coordination and communication of the activity within CTSSR
- Fit with CTSSR mission and IT strategic objectives
- Impact on the project or clientele it is designed to serve
- Efficiencies gained
- Sustainability of the project (can it be continued, and/or replicated)
How is the award selected? Nominations of teams of 3 or more can be submitted at any time from May – January, with a deadline of Feb. 1st. Download the nomination form here. Teams can self-nominate, or be nominated by others, including by people outside of our unit. On Feb. 2, any nominations will be collected and over the next couple of weeks, the selection team of VP for Information Technology; the VPs Chief of Staff; and the Executive Director of Converged Technologies will review the nominations, if there are any, and determine whether an award will be made for that year. If it is determined that an award will be made, the reviewers will select the nomination to be awarded and determine which of the 3 type of awards will be given, as appropriate for the type of achievement being selected.
When will the award be announced? If an award is to be given, the announcement will be made by mid-April.
